Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026
This policy explains what information the Association of Young Legal Historians collects when you use aylh.org, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to aylh.org, operated by the Association of Young Legal Historians (AYLH), a non-profit scholarly association. References to “we”, “us”, or “our” mean AYLH.
Questions or requests regarding this policy should be directed to [email protected] or via our contact page.
Data we collect
Information you provide directly
- Contact form submissions — name, email address, and the message you send. Used only to respond to your enquiry. Stored in our database and never shared with third parties.
- Newsletter subscriptions — email address and explicit consent timestamp. Used solely to send AYLH news and announcements. You must actively opt in; your email is stored in our own database and never sold, rented, or shared with any third party for any purpose.
- Feedback survey responses — an optional anonymous survey (star rating, tags, NPS score, role). No personally identifying information is required or inferred.
- Forum applications / membership enquiries — name, affiliation, research interests. Used for membership and event administration.
Usage data (analytics)
When you browse aylh.org we may collect standard usage data — pages visited, referrer, browser type, approximate geographic location (country/city), and session duration — via the third-party analytics services described in Section 3. This data is aggregated and anonymised; it is never linked to your identity.
Analytics data collection is optional. You can decline or withdraw consent at any time via the Cookie Settings panel in the site footer.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small number of cookies and browser localStorage entries. A full list is in Section 4.
Third-party services
The following services process data on our behalf. Each operates under its own privacy policy and, where applicable, is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.
Cookies and local storage
Essential — always active
Analytics — optional, requires consent
How we use personal data
- To respond to contact form enquiries
- To send newsletter emails you have subscribed to, and only after receiving your explicit consent
- To administer forum participation and membership
- To improve the website through anonymous analytics (with your consent)
- To meet any applicable legal obligations
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties for commercial or marketing purposes. All data you submit through our forms is stored exclusively in our own database (Supabase) and is accessed only by AYLH administrators and the technical service providers listed in Section 3 — solely for the purpose of operating the service.
We do not profile users, run targeted advertising, or pass your data to data brokers. Your information is used only for the specific purpose you provided it.
Newsletter consent
Subscribing to the AYLH newsletter requires your explicit, freely given consent. Before your email address is recorded, you must actively tick a consent checkbox acknowledging that:
- You agree to receive occasional emails from AYLH about events and publications.
- You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us.
- Your email address is stored securely and is never shared with any third party.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Upon unsubscribing, your email address is marked inactive and will no longer receive communications.
Retention and deletion
Contact enquiries are retained for up to two years and then deleted. Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe — upon unsubscribing your record is marked inactive; you may request permanent deletion at any time by emailing [email protected]. Anonymous analytics data follows each provider's own retention window (GA4 default: 14 months).
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold about you, or to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise any of these rights please contact [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Data transfers
Data may be processed outside your country of residence (for example on Vercel or Supabase infrastructure in the EU and US). Where such transfers occur, they are covered by appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent).
Children
Our service is not directed at anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has submitted data to us, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
